Burlingame Supporting ADUs

Burlingame officials agreed to loosen accessory dwelling unit building regulations as a means of combating the local affordability crisis, despite the parking and property management concerns raised by some.

The Burlingame City Council voted 3-2, with Mayor Michael Brownrigg and Councilwoman Ann Keighran dissenting, to promote creation of in-law units, according to video of the Tuesday, Sept. 4, meeting.

Advocates claim the new units, typically found in the back end of properties, could help lower the cost of living by creating additional housing stock, while critics fear the new residents could generate parking issues and confusion around operating rentals.
